Information about action of Ekolan after torrential rain at Miłe Mieszkania Housing Estate
On Saturday, 24 July 2010 in Gdansk rapid and very heavy rainfall took place. The runoff water got into the basements of the building located at ul. Guderskiego 28 at Miłe Mieszkania Housing Estate.
Within an hour, together with the company of Amitom – the administrator of the housing estate, we began works aiming to remove the effects of the rainstorm:
• removal of water from basements
• inserting drying equipment removing moisture from the basement
• cleanup of after-rainfall mud from the stairways
• arrangement of the land around the buildings and clearing roads and sidewalks
• ad hoc securing of parking lots in the event of subsequent rainfall
We have identified the following causes of the occurrence:
• the rapid and intense rainfall, which resulted in oversize water per square metre
• the flow of water from the Guderskiego Street unpredictable in the design documentation of the parking area (the street is under construction and there is no active drainage yet)
• inflow of water from the undeveloped, land above the road and building No. 28, which does not belong to Ekolan.

Since Monday, 26 July, 2010. we have taken the following actions:
• replacement of the storm water grating in front of the entrance to building No. 28 with the grating with a higher throughput
• implementation of additional line drainages before the entrance to building No. 28 and in the pavement perpendicular the building as well as at the stairs in the parking lot
• doubling the quantity of storm water gratings in the car park lots
• raising the stairs by one step above the level of the parking lot
• making an embankment and dewatering ditch in the area of Guderskiego street
• lowering the floor adjacent to the drainage grating in the basement of building No. 28
The completion date of the abovementioned works is 5 August 2010.
We are currently working on solutions to separation and orientation of rainwater from the public road and the adjacent parcel in such a way that even the oversize rainfall does not create danger to residents of Miłe Housing Estate.
